GreenDrop has become an essential part of the Portland Trailblazers experience at the Moda Center. The Rip City Reuse Program has been a run-away success and saved the organization waste and operating cost, whilst not removing from the fan experience. Implemented in 2022, this program has helped save 27,000 pounds of waste in its first full year on implementation! To help spread the word of this success, our team will be attending the Green Sports Alliance Reuse Symposium coming up on March 18th, 2025. Sometimes it is easy being green!
The Reuse Symposium in Portland, OR is hosted by the Green Sports Alliance, at the Moda Center. ParkingZone and the Trailblazers organization originally partnered together to create the GreenDrop Recycling Station for their waste diversion initiative. The new Rip City Reuse Program, created for the Moda Center, reduces all cup waste by having the fans separate the unique reuseable cups into their own diversion lane within the GreenDrop Station. The collected reusable cups are then taken to be cleaned, sanitized, checked for damage, and then put back into recirculation. The program is a key pillar in Moda Center’s journey to becoming completely zero-waste and is pushing boundaries amongst its peers in the sporting event industry.
